My Bean Bean. Any tips on how to get an elderly chi to lose weight? He weighs 12 lbs 8 oz, the vet said he should weigh 9, max. The vet also said it is likely he put on so much weight because he may not have been fed enough with his original owners.

What an adorable bundle of joy.

I have a 15 lb chi who is probably 1-2 lbs overweight.

I feed him lowfat dry food and I walk him and play catch with him everyday. I think I give too many treats.

I also have a 9 lb chi who is not an ounce overweight. He'd rather have kisses than treats so usually the 15 lb chi eats his treats as well.

You might try and just limit his food intake. I have 3 chi's and they only get feed once in the morning, only 1/4 cup of food.

Not sure if this will help you with your issue but it seems to work with mine. Good luck. :o)

I agree with everything people have said.

Regulated, low fat food, plenty of exercise (walking, playing, whatever he can handle), lower fat treats, etc.

He's adorable...what a face!
