I don't know about you guys but I'm one of those people who thinks that when a dog is mean it's because of the owners, but in this case, I disagree because it's our dog lol. So I'm curious, are your chihuahuas nice to everyone or only you and whoever you live with? Paco only likes my grandparents and I. Everyone else better watch their ankles! I don't understand why he's like this either! Any input?

Well chippy is nice to me, my parents, and brother -- who all live with us. He's also very nice to my grandmother, who does not live with us and only comes to visit every so often. He freaks out at most of my friends and just sort of stands there and scream-barks at them nonstop, unless they stay around for awhile, and then he only calms down if they sit down. Standing up is a big no-no to him for some odd reason. He can also calm down if I or one of my family members holds him while someone else is over. It all depends.

We're not entirely sure why he's like that with other people and freaks out so much because we had lots of people over within the first month we got him, and he used to greet anyone happily. But after awhile, he just started to get that all he does is bark at them.

When we first got chiquita she hated everybody but me. Even my boyfriend couldn't touch her. She would growl and snap, and climb up higher on my lap. We have now had her for over two years, and she is a cuddle slut. She will go to anyone who will hold her, and pet her, and she will stay there, until I enter the room, then she wants back in daddy's lap.

What I did when I got her, and she would snap, was very firmly say no, then hold her muzzle lightly closed for a second.

We're still working on other dogs though :)

I don't know the reason as to why...

Hmmm. Cheeky loves anyone and everyone who comes over. He will bark when they knock and come in, we think it's because he's trying to announce their arrival. He then waits until they sit down and will sneak attack them with kisses all over their faces. He waits until you aren't suspecting it too and will get his tongue in your mouth. It's gross but cute at the same time.

I do have to say though that he does tend to get cranky at times and will want to be left alone. But he's never bitten at ankles!

Heh. Sorry I wasn't much help to ya! Just thought I'd share.

My dog has always been evil to everyone except my mother. He loves her, but I'm him mom! (Which is somewhat saddening. I'm his back-up attention source.)
But even now he growls at her on occasion. It's the old age. He's now blind in one eye & doesn't like it when objects jump into his view. He's also cranky & growls if you take him out of your warm lap. lol.

Well, I just adopted mine. He is 11 years old, and completely friendly to everyone. Even bigger dogs! So I guess I am not much help on this.

My chis are kinda fussy about who they like and who they dont.
It takes about 6 visits for them to warm up to people.
And the prefer women to men.
